The day is here, folks, as Aldi becomes the first supermarket to grace us with the absolute joy that are halloumi fries. That’s right, the fried cheese staple that we’ve all become absolutely obsessed with. Move over, potato, amirite?
You will now be able to get your hands on bags of frozen halloumi fries, meaning you can have them whenever you bloody well fancy. What a time to be alive.
The Golden & Crispy Specially Selected Halloumi Fries (erm, yum), will only set you back just £1.99 and will be found in the frozen food aisles.
These tasty savoury treats aren’t in stores just yet, but you’ll be able to pick up a bag from 19 May – which, thankfully, is pretty soon.
Julie Ashfield, Joint Managing Director of Corporate Buying at Aldi UK, said: “Halloumi is very popular right now and we are delighted to be the first supermarket to bring our customers halloumi fries, a snack we think will be a big hit this summer and which isn’t currently available from any other supermarkets.”
Yes, you think right Julie – something tells us these are, indeed, going to be a big hit.
“Aldi’s Specially Selected Haloumi Fries are made with scrumptiously soft – and slightly salty – halloumi cheese from Cyprus and a lightly seasoned crispy coating making them the perfect side or snack for sharing,” the product description explains.
Expect a riot in the frozen food aisle and a round of trolley bashing if you want to grab a bag of these.
Aldi has said it was inspired by Nandos‘, which recently added halloumi fries to its starter menu – much to the delight to pretty much everyone.
At Nando’s, theirs come with a side of chilli jam for dipping. We’re always fans of a good dipping.
Nando’s said: “The famous squeaky cheese has long been the perfect compliment to Nando’s fiery brand of Southern African PERi-PERi chicken, and is now rewarded with its very own starter.
“Consisting of five chunky sticks of halloumi, grilled until golden brown, and served with a pot of Nando’s sticky, sweet chilli jam for dipping; addiction levels will be high.”
I mean, five is probably nowhere near going to satisfy those cheese lovers, but this creation will surely go down a treat.
Good job Aldi has brought out a massive bag of ‘em then, isn’t it?
